Week Notes Vol 155
April 24, 2022
Now that day to day has returned to somewhat normal for most people I keep on stumblin upon Twitter threads around what one’s career trajectory should look like. All these threads do is make most people wonder why/how much are they behind but the real question is what is your optimal destination in the first place? Not everyone wants to be a CTO or VP of engineering. It also assumes that one takes no breaks in their career (read: people who choose to have children for example).
I have been in tech over 20 years now. Some would consider my EM title a failure. From my point of view it’s the optimal position for me where there’s enough strategy, processes and still involved in technical side to keep it interesting for me. At some point people management might become something I opt out of and will switch into more technical PM role. Not all career paths have to follow what seems like an upward trajectory.
