Week Notes Vol 16
August 22, 2019
For the past 8 or so years I have been celebrating what we call knitter’s Christmas in July. This year our annual party shifted a little into August. Why would one celebrate Christmas in July? It’s a common issue for those of us who like to make things for other people for Christmas. In the mad rush to get everything done we neglect to take care of our own needs. Hence why every year in January we draw names amongs our group and have full 6 months to plot and plan our presents. Our little group of knitters has gone through major ups and downs together, celebrated successes and backed each other up during dark times. We are all different - some are parents, some are not, some could be parents of the younger ones (we range from 34 to 60) but one thing we all have in common is our love for fiber and zero tolerance for sexism, classism and racism.
Reading
- I wrapped up Can We All Be Feminists?: New Writing from Brit Bennett, Nicole Dennis-Benn, and 15 Others on Intersectionality, Identity, and the Way Forward for Feminism this week and I’d say this one one of those books everyone needs to read along with the following:
- So You Want to Talk About Race
- In Other Words
- Broad Band: The Untold Story of the Women Who Made the Internet
- Dear Ijeawele, or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions
- Inferior: How Science Got Women Wrong—and the New Research That’s Rewriting the Story
- Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking
