Week Notes Vol 58
June 14, 2020
As it turns out spending a night away from your home and sleeping under someone else’s roof is exactly what was needed to help to reboot my system (apparently going camping does not count). I’ve been thinking about, questioning and discussing my own white privilege more than usual lately and it’s neither easy or pleasant. There are some aspects of current events that very much remind me of the Soviet days. Coming to the realization that I have moved from being oppressed to the oppressor is a bitter pill to swallow and an uncomfortable position to be in. Nevertheless reading through the list of characteristics of white supremacy culture I find majority of them too familiar from the past. Thankfully as an adult I am able to process it much better - although I frequently wish being older and smarter would also let me forever forget songs like this.
PS. There are no subtitles but if you have an hour to kill, Чебурашка is a good intro into old Russian cartoons.
