Week Notes Vol 62
July 12, 2020
Humans are interesting creatures. We adapt to both positive and negative events with much less friction than one would expect. I’m curious how would we rate 2020 in five years? Will we return to our level of happiness before 2020 and COVID-19 happened? Most of the time when the term hedonic adaptation is mentioned it is in the context of postive changes. In 2020 this might be perhaps the fact that people get to spend more time with their families but by now the novelty is starting to wear off.
There are those of us who have used the time to catch up on all projects and ideas that have been put aside due to time constraints. However not all of us are wired that way and consider just getting through the day an accomplishment. Never in my life have I’ve been more satisfied with my #childfree life than now! The planner in me does not like the uncertainty of not knowing when or if life will return to normal again - especially now that some European countries have returned to life as if COVID-19 never happened. On the flip side my own stuff has never been more organized and streamlined so there’s that. Extra bonus points for discovering that my sweet spot is hiking 10-20 miles in remote areas.
