Week Notes Vol 82

First time in years where I did not travel for Thanksgiving - normally this extended weekend is perfect time to go hit up a national park. Instead we had a low key Thanksgiving day featuring all things that make it Americana from an Estonian’s perspective - turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, Ambrosia salad, Sweet potatoes with marshmallows, pumkin pie. There were arts and crafts, Thanksgiving parade and sports and an afternoon stroll between meals.

We also watched Donut King which was an interesting insight into the donut industry in the states. It also highlighted the labor of individual families, how everyone including children from a very young age worked at the donut shop. It made me think about my first job at a family hotel complex where I did anything from checking in people, cleaning hotel rooms to working in the bar/restaurant. I think having a full time job over summer is an experience everyone should have in high school to appreciate the labor of other people.
