Week Notes Vol 90

January 24, 2021

This week brought a new president, a first female VP and a major project release at work. I should be celebrating but I am simply drained. I’m also preparing for performance reviews for my team and so much of my lived experience is coming back to me and I am noticing patterns emerge. At the same time I’m also reading a book about what is holding women back professionally and it’s so much to acknowledge and face - things we as women do because the society has told us this is how we should behave.

“So if you hang back from an opportunity because you dislike speaking before large crowds, you may rationalize that you’ve always been this way, even in grade school when you were among the last to raise your hand. If you’re uncomfortable talking about your achievements during a performance review, you may recall that your mother always said that only selfish people talk about themselves.”
