Week Notes Vol 96
March 07, 2021
Next week marks the anniversary of working from home for many folks. There are patterns I have noticed at work that are somewhat concerning, especially for a fairly young team that is half made up of people who used to work in the office versus those hired after March 2020. Everyone is burnt out of Zoom meetings yet that is the preferred way to collaborate and develop new ideas. Therefore it is less effort to fall back to things that can be nailed down easily or silo people into tasks which then become knowledge bottlenecks. This article from last year summarizes it nicely:
We also found that when working remotely, people tended to prefer more structured and routine tasks – especially people who were new to it. They seemed to find working from home more conducive to simpler, less collaborative, more transactional tasks and have prioritised that kind of work recently.
